³ÉÈËÔ¼ÅÚÍøÕ¾SU Supplemental Health & Dental Insurance (for all students)

³ÉÈËÔ¼ÅÚÍøÕ¾SU founded their Supplemental Health & Dental Insurance through a student referendum. It is a plan established by students for students.

• Full-time students are automatically ‘opted in’, i.e. the plan is mandatory for students in ³ÉÈËÔ¼ÅÚÍøÕ¾’s regular programs of 20 weeks or more regardless of the program delivery method (blended, online, etc.). Students who are new to the plan will have a validation period of between 45 and 60 days. During this time, benefits can be accessed but must be held until the validation period has passed. After the validation period, new students are activated to the plan. 
• Part-time students are not eligible for coverage under this insurance plan.
• Students may ‘opt-out’ of this coverage upon provision of proof of alternate (equivalent) insurance coverage. If you have proof of comparable extended coverage, you must apply to ‘opt out’ of the plan prior to ³ÉÈËÔ¼ÅÚÍøÕ¾’s deadline (refer to Academic Calendar for dates) using the . Provincial health plans are not comparable coverage, as they do not include all the benefit categories included in the student plan. Please note the Medicare and/or Guard Me plans are designed to complement the ³ÉÈËÔ¼ÅÚÍøÕ¾SU insurance and cannot be used to "opt-out" of the supplemental health & dental insurance. If you are an international student looking for information on opting out of guard.me, visit .
• Additional coverage for spouse and/or dependents is available (refer to Academic Calendar for deadline dates). You will have one opportunity to purchase family coverage for your spouse and/or dependent(s) by submitting an application form to the Student Benefits Representative.

Guard.me International Insurance (International students only)

All international students are required to have valid international medical insurance while they are studying with ³ÉÈËÔ¼ÅÚÍøÕ¾ and will be automatically enrolled in the Guard.me during the first academic term of study each year. Charges for this plan are $600 per calendar year.

Students in their first term of study of their academic year, can request an opt out from the  if they can answer YES to one of the following questions.

• I have valid New Brunswick Medicare coverage through the end of my academic studies in this year, OR
• I have changed my program and have a valid Guard.me Plan issued by ³ÉÈËÔ¼ÅÚÍøÕ¾ in the last 12 months. 

If your New Brunswick Medicare coverage expires before the last day of study for your current academic year, an opt out is NOT available, and it is your responsibility to ensure you reapply for New Brunswick Medicare in advance of its expiry.

Opt Out Request Form

Students who have successfully opted out of the Guard.me medical insurance plan will be automatically enrolled in the Guard.me Excursion Plan. The cost of the Guard.me Excursion Plan will be $64.50 for the calendar year. This plan is mandatory regardless of other insurance coverage. 

Adjustments to the student account will be made within 10 to 15 business days of the opt out request being approved in accordance with the Academic Calendar.

To purchase early arrival insurance coverage prior to the start of your intake, please contact Guard.Me directly to request a quote and enroll for coverage.

Dependent coverage is only available once your Guard.Me student policy is issued.  Policies will be issued on the third-Monday of the intake after the in-class deadline and after the withdrawal deadline per the Academic Calendar.

Province of New Brunswick Medicare Program (international students only)

New Brunswick Medicare is available to full-time international students who are studying at New Brunswick post-secondary institutions. Domestic students are already enrolled in the program and need take no further action.
